Thursday Night at SISU

So I decided I’m not using a box, I’m doing this thing right and its gonna be awesomely difficult.

15 Jumping Pull-Ups

Thrusters oh how I  used to love you until this workout.  These things killed me and then onto some pull-ups this workout is straight up difficult.  Its like a fran that doesn’t end for 20 minutes….

So my score isn’t going to be as good as others but I don’t care I did it right.  I went from the ground and did a jumping pull-up.  And as much as they were hard difficult and a pain in my ass I really worked hard and I feel great.

Thursday Night at SISU

Spent some time on to rollers and doing some mobility, this felt great.  I really like spending time on these things before a workout.  I always learn something new and always feel great afterwards.

Working out with Jake today, always awesome.  I started up around 135 and added weight until I got to where I stopped 225.  I sometimes think I could do a bit more… Next time!

2013 – Workout #95

Saturday Morning at SISU

A fun workout today with a group.  I worked out with Jake and Kari.

Basically we had a medicine ball within the team that could never touch the ground.  We had 6 stations four minutes each station with a 200M run between. One person had to rest and hold the medicine ball.

I really worked out hard on this workout and had a ton of fun!  So glad I got out of bed today 🙂  Hardest part was probably either Thrusters or Tire flips…

Tonight at SISU

Pretty standard / normal warmup and then right into a fun workout.

I don’t know how everyone else feels about these EMOM (every minute on the minute) but they are like a massive distraction.  They make everything harder.  But at the same time is a defined breakup of the work.  Its also a deadline to push for every minute.

The obvious part that held me up the most were the over head squats.  I’m just not all that strong with them.  I believe this to be a hip issue.  I just dont’ feel stable when my hands locked out over head.

I felt like this workout went well.  At first trying to keep up with brent, but he smoked me once he got to the OHS.  I felt my thrusters were great, and my front squats were strong!

2013 – Workout #90

Thrusday night with Jason B at SISU

Small class tonight at the gym.  With the snow and the weather I am not surprised.  We did a warmup, I got em done.  My hands are sore so I am not doing too many pull-ups.  Only to see that there is a 3 attempts at a max toes to bar…

For the max toes to bar i was able to get a decent number, I actually got 15.  I was pretty surprised.  My next set I got 14 then an 11.  To be honest these were pretty dam hard after yesterdays bunch of situps.

I was really excited for this workout, I want to crush this thing.  I am strong at thrusters and also I am feeling better about burpees every day…

The first two rounds went well and then all the sudden that wall, that wall that just hurts and your mind loses it.  Next thing I know I am just trying to survive this thing, I am truely disappointed in my workout.  As hard as i worked out my score isn’t what I wanted, no where near.

Friday night at SISU with Pat

Well the last games workout.  I did it yesterday at the end of my workout and so I know what I am in for.  I get some warmups not too much just some thrusters and some pushups a few pull-ups etc etc.  More jaw jacking then really getting super warm.

Workout of the Day
CrossFit Games Open 13.5
Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 4 minutes of:
15 Thrusters (100/65 lbs)
15 Chest-to-bar Pull-ups

If 90 reps (3 rounds) are completed in under 4 minutes, time extends to 8 minutes.
If 180 reps (6 rounds) are completed in under 8 minutes, time extends to 12 minutes.
If 270 reps (9 rounds) are completed in under 12 minutes, time extends to 16 minutes.
Etc.

The difficult thing is the pull-ups.  I got there with plenty of time and if I was able to ban out those pull-ups I would have made it into the second round without a doubt.  Too bad it takes me minutes to get 15.  Oh well I did good for what I thought I could get done.

I did all the thrusters unbroken, feel good about that.

Over all I had fun with the open, fun to add some competition to these workouts, no matter how much I am bad or good at something there is always someone worse and better.  Next year I’ll do even better.

2013 – Workout #80

Wednesday night at SISU with Pat

Partner warmup!  These are always kind of fun.  I partnered up with my buddy Liz whom I love to workout with because shes awesome.  Pushes me and I get to push her back.  We rocked the warmup and had some fun.

Oh the pressures to lift big when given the opportunity.. I did rock out a 215 on the 3 rep max thruster…  I felt pretty good in this.  If I could rack this weight I really could be strong!

Liz is going to be the one to chase at this.. I  am going to do my best.  And for the round and maybe 1/2 I was able to keep up with her.  But in the end she just was a stronger shuttle runner and she is good at wall balls.  So I guess I will have to lose to her today.  Oh well.

The first round was OK, the next two were awful.  By the end of the third round I really coudn’t run much.  I was doing my best but really getting worked.  Fun workout, I really like the contrast of todays work.

2013 – Workout #41

Valentines day with Jason B at SISU can you think of a better way to spend it?  I saw a poem today:

The warmup was pretty casual, I did some pull-ups.  I did some push-ups (Set of 30) and I did a casual 500M row (about 1:55) then I worked a little handstand stuff.  That actually was pretty good.

This is a bear of a workout.  Those 50 thrusters in the middle are gonna be friggin awesome.  I got started on this thing all wrong, I went the wrong way I was up to 3’s before I figured it out.  Which is kind of a moot point because it really isn’t that much time and I counted them once I got there.

I did pretty awesome on the thrusters, I won’t lie I pushed pretty hard through them on sets of 10 and two sets of five and a heroic set of 10 at the end.  I felt great about these during the workout and after.  Even my squat depth is getting better.

I got a few sets where the doubles were good but all in all they weren’t good.  I couldnt’ get them going and I paid for it in my time.  The burpees felt good I did well on them.

Valentines day workout, it was fun.

2013 – Workout #33

Wednesday night with Jason at SISU

OH my gosh in my warmup to day I got 30+ double unders!  Can you believe that!!!  I was actually amazed.  My previous record like 11…  So I am hoping I can keep that feeling, and get those down.

Inch worms my gosh the inch worms…  They wreck me.

Working on the snatch again, I really need to spend more time on this.  I really feel that I can do great things with this lift.  My size is good, my strength is good, I just need to get it sorted out.

This workout is made for me, its quick and it has lifting.  I want to crush this thing.  I want to get it under 4:00 minutes!  Is that possible?!?!?  I Feel it is.

Well I got a little tired a little more then planned.  I dropped the bar during my thrusters, that killed me.  Ego wise as well and my time.  Then I had to break up a kettlebell set and that also slowed me down.  Didn’t make my goal but I feel it was one great push!  I am feeling great about this workout.

And its nice to have a quick burner every now and again.  Everything doesn’t need to be a 5 rounds or 20min amrap.
